Do I cook it?

It is a raw cereal and is ready to eat after mixing in either your milk, almond, hemp or soya beverage. Then wait about four to five minutes and enjoy! The cereal can also be added to cooked or quick oats, baked in muffins or blended in smoothies. Look at our recipes section for more serving ideas.

Is there a reason to let it sit for a few minutes before eating?

Yes, the chia in the cereal absorbs about 9 times its weight and needs to soak in a liquid for a few minutes. Some people prefer to let it soak longer. Experiment from between 3 minutes to overnight in the fridge to see how you like it best.

What is the idea behind the small serving size?

2 tablespoons of Holy Crap cereal or Skinny B cereal expands when hydrated to make a much larger volume serving that will make you feel full and satisfied through to lunch time. Look at this article to find out how to prepare the cereal.

Can I add it to my cooked oats or muesli?

Yes, you can add to cooked oats or muesli. See our recipes section for other serving ideas.

How long does a single bag last?

Between 8-16 days for one person depending on how you make your cereal. You can put a tablespoon into yogurt the night before, leave it in the fridge overnight and then stir it up and voila! instant breakfast.

How do I store it and how long does the cereal keep?

Your cereal will stay fresh unrefrigerated for several weeks after opening and up to three months in the fridge. Refrigerating the cereal bags after opening is best. In a cool cupboard our unopened cereal will remain fresh one year and our Wild Chia cereal will stay fresh for three years.

Am I going to go to the bathroom right away?

We suggest that you eat the cereal for a week and then see the results for yourself.

Where does your chia come from?

Our certified organic chia is grown in the highlands of Mexico and is higher in calcium than some other brands.

What did you use as a mixer in the samples at Granville Island Market?

We use organic yogurt, soya or a vanilla flavored hemp beverage as a mixer.

What else could I mix the cereal with or add to it?

Anything you like…almond milk or apple juice if you like it sweet, or water in a pinch. A great favorite is to add Skinny B cereal to flavored smoothies and juice drinks. Holy Crap cereal mixed with a small bottle of Danone’s Danactive® is another way our customers enjoy the cereal. Our customers also add organic things like agave, dried fruit, bee pollen, maple syrup, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, pine nuts, almonds and a host of other great breakfast treats to their Holy Crap cereal.
